The following evaluation acts as a means to review and go over every aspect of the morning report unit of work. In the evaluation, I will go over a few key things in which I was to expand upon. These being my timekeeping skills, my attitude towards the unit as well as participation, how well I thought I did, What I would do next time to improve if given the chance and an overall conclusion on my work ethic towards the unit.
In the morning repot unit we explored the way in which how a newspaper is created and produced, we also went into more depth about the legal implications and trade unions. A lot of this unit was pretty much all research and theoretical so in turn I didn't enjoy this unit of work as much as something more practical. Because of this, I don't feel as if I put as much effort into this unit of work as much as I should of, I didn't in particular fully enjoy the unit.
Within the page layout stage of task 2, I felt that this part was a lot better than that of the rest of the morning report. Not because of how small that part was but because it was something practical to do and enjoy, I enjoyed making the double page spread of my unit as it was more than just sitting down and writing. It allowed me to get more creative than what the other half of the morning report offered.
Despite this though, I felt I kept to a good schedule and was regularly producing work to a good standard even if ill, this is another point to highlight, throughout the morning report unit I had quite a bit of time off whether it was from illness or the loss of a long time family pet and having to the be there for others when it mattered most. That being said, I still made sure I did everything I could of to complete work, even if it be at a later date. Minus the actual creation of the newspaper, which i'll get into later on in the evaluation.
Personally I think I did a good job on the morning report unit, there would be some things I would change if I could like my attendance and effort towards completing the work but because of circumstances this wasn't possible to improve on in some aspects. What I did well on mostly would be my ability to write and convey an idea or hypothesis through writing and I feel like that really showed in a unit which is based around writing and especially since I decided to expand on the job role of a writer within print.
Evaluating task 3 -
Because of my absence on the day of putting together the newspaper I am unable to assess and go over how well I thought I did on that particular part of the project. I can however speak a little about my role as becoming the main and lead editor before stepping down to a deputy editor and how I thought I did with conducting group meetings within the class.
As shown in the evidence of me taking part in an editorial meeting, I was elected as the editor for the newspaper by the class and then took it upon myself to find out what job role everyone was interested in and mark that down to process the information back to the teacher. Personally, taking on this role helped me with having the confidence and being able to communicate with my peers as for me it was a big task and something I wasn't entirely comfortable with. The next meeting on the following week I got what news story everyone was working on within the group, this was done in person and the rest by email. I felt I did well in this aspect as I had a chance to voice my opinion and be the one in charge, so I decided to the best job I could within the amount of time I was the lead editor on the project.
If I was there on the day of being the lead editor behind the newspaper I would be going around, checking everyones stories and making sure they had the right pacing and made sense. I would also be proof-reading and making edits to the stories if needed. On top of this, my own story would of been produced for the newspaper to be put into it as well whilst working with the page layout team.
After stepping down because of illness and a lot of personal reasons I took a back seat on the production of the newspaper and actually entirely missed the creation of the newspaper. If I was to change something it'd be this, as I felt guilty but then also has nothing to show for, for the entire of Task 3 other than taking part in a meeting. Due to circumstances I wasn't able to take part though and I felt that I let myself down on that one. Given the chance, If I could do the whole project again, I'd do it and make sure I made the effort to come in, even when feeling extremely ill.
Overall conclusion and final thoughts -
To finish off this evaluation, I'd like to think I did a good job on the unit, certainly I could improve some aspects of the unit like attending to lessons more often, putting more effort into the unit and at least trying to enjoy it more than I actually did. Everything was not in vain though as its a lesson to learn and to then move on in the future with better units and projects.
In places like how well I kept to a personal schedule and my overall participation in the unit there was some improvement and in general throughout the whole year I feel as if I became a lot more confident in all aspects and my overall attitude to working has improved.
A thing to work on for next time would be my attendance as well as actively getting enjoyment from the project instead of associating it with negativity, thus making it a negative experience.
